Blood Flow Restriction (BFR)
With OISI Therapy, we offer a specialized technique called Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) to assist in recovery from injury and surgery.
What is BFR?
Blood Flow Restriction is a safe method of restricting blood flow to the muscles while exercising to produce an accelerated response. This allows you to exercise at a low intensity but produce similar results as high intensity training due to the restriction in blood flow. Inflatable bands are placed on the upper or lower extremity and inflated to safe level that is individually determined for the patient. The patient will then complete 20 minutes of various exercises during the BFR session. This helps decrease muscle atrophy and improve strength, which in turn helps your recovery. Ask your therapist if you are a candidate for BFR.
